      INNOVATION BEYOND
      TRADITION

We have brought together Plastidite and ELKAR, two Italian companies with over 50 years of history, renowned for the production of acridite sheets, with the goal of creating a superior polymethylmethacrylate.

The long experience gained over years of activity, combined with technological innovation, ensures the high quality of our slabs, obtained through cutting-edge production cycles. We are aware that the plastic materials of the future must respect the dictates of the circular economy and environmental sustainability. Innovation is the only way to develop products with the characteristics necessary to minimize consumption and the impact on the surrounding environment.

Founded in 1980, ELKAR specializes in producing cast acrylic sheets, with a 6000 m2 structure located in Valmadrera (LC). In addition to a wide range of colors and finishes, it produces special slabs that require almost artisanal processing. Its strong point? the production of plates even in limited quantities to satisfy even the most demanding requests, thanks to a team of professionals dedicated to the color study.

Plastidite, active since 1960, has an area of about 11.000 square meters, with a production potential of about 2.000 tons / year. Since 2005, it has expanded its business starting by distributing in addition to PMMA also polycarbonate, PETG and semi-foam PVC .

WHAT DISTINGUISHES US IN THE PRODUCTION OF ACRYLIC SHEETS?

Constant research and innovation on materials

Low environmental impact production and manufacturing processes

Efficiency and time-to-market thanks to two production sites

      Innovative Materials

While Enrico Fermi theorized the instability of the neuron and its decay into a proton , the first sheets of Plexiglass came out of the Rohm and Haas chemical industry , ready for wholesale.

Its inventor, Otto Rohm , had started the first experiments after the discovery of safety glass. By joining and gluing two sheets of glass with a transparent synthetic glue, he had made a double glass that could not be shattered by hammers or blunt instruments. After six years of intense research, polymethylmethacrylate came to life, with the transparency of glass and the resistance of graphene.

PMMA, also called Plexiglass or Polymethylmethacrylate, soon became a very popular material. Initially it was used to produce glasses, gas masks, windows for airships, portholes for bombing planes, reflectors in bicycle pedals, skylights for buses and trams, drawing instruments, lines and squares, tableware, decorations.

But only after the end of the Second World War, the demand exploded in many areas. Illuminated signs, dentures, designer furniture and marine aquariums are just some of the objects built in PMMA that we encounter in our daily life.

In the building sector, it is recognized as the optimal material for the construction of external panels, which ensures the energy efficiency of buildings. The first major use of PMMA panels was in 1972 for the roof of the Olympic stadium in Munich.
